Japanese Stab Bookbinding

I crafted this book using a method called Japanese Stab Binding. Many different binding patterns exist but I made this one with a basic three-hole binding. It’s a simple and beautiful technique.

I used cork fabric for the cover which kept it flexible. I bound it with natural hemp cord. The papers I used were handmade natural Lokta papers suitable for pen and ink. It measures 5.5 inches x 5.5 inches

It’s a relatively simple method especially since the sewing is done along the edge of the book rather than on the folded spine.  This method allows you to compile separate sheets of paper into one bound volume. A very simple non-adhesive binding with very few tools needed.
